Arson 18-27045On June 12, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to Frank Olsen Park at 4001 East 16th Street for an arson. The investigation showed that the suspect had started the fire by lighting a roll of paper towels in the men’s restroom. The damage done by the fire is approximately $3,000. SFPD # 18-27045.

Burglary 18-27006On June 12, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to a commercial business near the area of East Benson Road and North Lewis Avenue for a burglary. The suspect was able to gain access to the business by prying open an entrance door. Once inside, the suspect rummaged through several offices and the shop area. The suspect stole numerous tools, electronic items, and some medical supplies. The value of the damage done and the items stolen is approximately $40,000. SFPD # 18-27006.

Over the course of the last month, members of the Sioux Falls Police Department have responded to 26 separate reports of the same type of graffiti. The graffiti has been painted/drawn on electric boxes, street signs, and power poles. The damage from the graffiti is approximately $3,000.

Over the course of the last week, members of the Sioux Falls Police Department have responded to 6 separate reports of guns being stolen from vehicles. On all of these incidents the vehicles were left unlocked. In an effort to combat this problem the Sioux Falls Police Department encourages the public to employ some basic preventative measures which include: locking your vehicles, removing valuables from view, and not leaving guns in your vehicle.

On May 23, 2018, Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a commercial business near the area of I-90 and Highway 38. An employee of the business reported that an unknown suspect(s) had stolen a large amount of power cords to their equipment. These cords contained a large amount of copper wire. On May 9, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to a commercial business in the area of East 6th Street and North Sycamore Avenue for a robbery. Upon arrival officers found that an unknown suspect entered the business holding a knife, grabbed the employee who was working, and instructed her to open the safe. The suspect forced the employee to open the cash register and he took an undetermined amount of money. The suspect then fled from the store and ran to the south. The suspect was last seen wearing black jeans, a black jacket, black shoes, black gloves, and a mask over his face.

An employee came to work and noticed the back door to the business had been pried open. The employee went inside the business and noticed their work truck had been stolen. On March 29, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to the 1000 block of North Lalley Lane for a theft. The construction company left their trailer parked at the job site. When they returned the next day the tools inside the trailer had been stolen. The suspect(s) had cut the padlocks off the trailer to gain access. On March 26, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to the 300 block of South Duluth Avenue for a robbery. The victim had been dropped off at her apartment and was carrying her infant child up the stairs to her apartment. The male suspect approached the victim from behind and tried to grab the victim’s wallet away from her. The actions by the suspect caused the victim to drop her infant on the stairs and she fell on him. The suspect took the victim’s wallet and fled from the scene. The suspect is described as a Hispanic or Native American Male who was wearing all dark clothing.

On March 19, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to the parking lot of the Westwick Motel at 5801 West 12th Street for a stolen vehicle. The victim had parked in front of the Motel Office when she was approached by the suspect. The suspect opened the driver’s door and grabbed her by her shoulder and threw her to the ground. The suspect then got into the suspect’s vehicle and drove away at a high rate of speed. The suspect is described as a Hispanic or Native American Male, 5’6”-5’8”, and short dark hair. He was last seen wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans.

On March 9, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to the parking lot of Shopko at 4501 East Arrowhead Parkway for a robbery. The victim pulled into the parking lot and was exiting her vehicle when she was approached by the suspect. The suspect told the victim to give him her purse. While doing this the suspect displayed a silver knife at the victim. The suspect took the victim’s purse and fled from the parking lot. The suspect is described as a dark skinned black male, 5’9”-5’11”, with a slender build. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans, and sunglasses on his head.

On February 24, 2018, Minnehaha County Sheriff Deputies responded to a commercial business in the 6000 block of North Cliff Avenue for an attempted burglary. The investigation showed that a black Ford F150 drove into the garage doors of the business. The force of the truck broke off the bottom two panels of the garage door. After driving into the garage doors the truck fled the scene. The damage done to the garage door is approximately $1,000.

On February 21, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business parking lot near the intersection of West 41st Street and South Minnesota Avenue. The investigation showed that a male was walking in the parking lot carrying the night deposit when a vehicle pulled up next to him. The subject driving the vehicle pointed a handgun at the victim and told him to put the deposit in the vehicle. Strong Armed Robbery 18-11035On February 12, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to the parking lot of Hy-Vee at 1231 East 57th Street for an armed robbery. The investigation showed that the female victim was in the parking lot returning to her vehicle. While in the parking lot the suspect walked up to her and he was holding a knife in his right hand. The suspect told her that he wanted her purse and the victim tried to get away from him. The suspect followed the victim and attempted to stab her. The victim fell to the ground and the suspect grabbed her purse. The suspect then fled westbound from the parking lot. The suspect was described as a Native American male with a thin build and a black scarf over his face. He was last seen wearing a Dallas Cowboys sweatshirt, black pants, and black tennis shoes. The suspect entered the store, indicated he had a gun in his pocket and demanded money from the cash register. The employee gave the suspect an undetermined amount of money and he ran from the store. The suspect is described as an African American male approximately 6’0” and heavy set.
