On March 26, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business near West 41st Street and South Marion Road for an armed robbery.   The investigation found that an unknown suspect had entered the business and approached the employee working.  The suspect pointed a black handgun at the employee and demanded money.  The suspect was able to get an undetermined amount of money and fled from the business.  The suspect was described as an approximately 6’0” male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black ski mask and sunglasses, black gloves, and black shoes.

Potential Covid-19 Scams

There have been reports in other parts of the country about people going door-to-door with COVID-19 home testing kits. Once inside, they steal and rob from the victims. There are NO reports like this happening in Sioux Falls.  Some people may try to take advantage of others, please don't give out sensitive information or fall victim to these types of scams. Remember, in Sioux Falls, anyone selling or peddling must have and show a Peddler's Permit. If they do not have a permit, do not buy anything or let anyone into your home and call police.

On March 9, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business under construction near East 26 Street and South Veterans Parkway for a burglary.  The investigation found that unknown suspects had made entry into the business.  Once inside the suspects stole numerous construction tools.  The amount of loss from the theft was approximately $10,000.

On March 1, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to a house under construction near West Benson Road and North Marion Road for a burglary.  The investigation found that unknown suspects had forced entry into the house to gain access.  Once inside the suspects stole numerous construction tools.  The amount of loss from the damage and theft was approximately $15,000.

On February 19, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to a storage unit facility near West 12th Street and South Marion Road for a burglary.   The investigation found that unknown suspects had broken into a storage unit at the facility. The total amount of loss from the damage and theft was approximately $3,000.

February 20, 2020

On February 16, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to an armed robbery near the intersection of West 41 Street and South Louise Avenue. The investigation found that two unknown suspects entered the business, approached the employee, and displayed a gun.  The suspects were able to obtain an undetermined amount of money and fled from the business. The suspects were described as 1- African American male, 5’2”-5’5” with dreadlocks.  He was last seen wearing a black ski mask and a black hooded sweatshirt.  This suspect displayed a silver revolver.  2- African American male, 6’2”-6’4”.  He was last seen wearing a black ski mask and black hooded sweatshirt.

On February 13, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to an armed robbery near the intersection of West 57th Street and South Marion Avenue. The investigation found that an unknown suspect had entered the business, approached the employee, and displayed a gun.  The suspect was able to obtain an undetermined amount of money and fled from the business to the north. The suspect was described as an African American male, 5’9” with an athletic build and carrying a black and silver handgun.  He was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, black sweat pants, black tennis shoes, and a green/white bandana covering his face.  SFPD CC#2020-03002.

On February 5, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to a larceny near the intersection of East 41st Street and South Linedrive Avenue. The investigation found that unknown suspects had broken into a building under construction.  Numerous construction tools were stolen and the total loss is in excess of $2,000.  SFPD CC#2020-02473.



Tailgate Thefts 20-01837

Over the course of the last several weeks the Sioux Falls Police Department responded to multiple reports of tailgates being stolen from vehicles.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect selected random parked vehicles in the parking lots of closed commercial businesses.  The suspect then steals the tailgate.

Since January 1, 2020, Sioux Falls Police have responded to 58 stolen vehicles.  A large number of these stolen vehicles had the keys in the vehicle and were running.  Some tips to prevent stolen vehicles are: 1-Never leave your car running or the keys in the ignition when you’re away from it.  2-Always roll up the windows and lock your car, even if it’s in front of your home.  3-Park in busy, well lighted areas.  Don’t be a victim of this serious crime.

January 16, 2020

On January 13, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to a storage unit facility near East 60th Street and North Cliff Avenue for a burglary.  The investigation found that unknown suspects had broken into a storage unit at the facility.  Numerous construction tools were stolen and the total loss is in excess of $15,000.  SFPD CC#2020-00843.

January 09, 2020

Over the course of the last several weeks the Sioux Falls Police Department responded to multiple reports of catalytic converters being cut off vehicles.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect selected random parked vehicles in the parking lots of closed commercial businesses.  The suspect then cuts off the catalytic converters.  SFPD CC# 2020-00502.



Bicycle Theft 19-26303
December 26, 2019

On December 24, 2019, the Sioux Falls Police Department received a vandalism report from a business near West 28th Street and South Minnesota Avenue.  The reporting party advised that an unknown suspect(s) had cut a fence to gain access to a storage area outside the business.  The investigation found that several donated bicycles were stolen from this storage area during the overnight hours.  The total amount of loss from damage and theft was $5000.00.   SFPD CC#2019-00026303

December 12, 2019

On December 11, 2019, Sioux Falls Police responded to an armed robbery near the intersection of East 10th Street and South Sycamore Avenue.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect entered the business and told the employee working to “give me the money”.  The employee gave the suspect an undetermined amount of money and he then fled from the business.  The suspect was described as a male wearing a gray towel over his head, black jacket, blue jeans, and white shoes.  SFPD CC#2019-25298.

December 05, 2019

On December 5, 2019, Sioux Falls Police responded to an armed robbery near the intersection of West 49th Street and South Louise Avenue.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect entered the business and put several items in a shopping basket.  The suspect then exited the store without paying for the items.  An employee of the store attempted to stop the suspect after he exited the store.  The suspect then pulled out a knife and waved it at the employee.  SFPD CC#2019-24761.

On November 25, 2019, Sioux Falls Police responded to an armed robbery near the intersection of East 14th Street and South 2nd Avenue.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect entered the business and put several items in a shopping basket.  The suspect then exited the store without paying for the items.  An employee of the store attempted to stop the suspect after he exited the store.  The suspect then pulled out a knife and attempted to stab the employee.  A picture of the suspect is attached.   SFPD CC#2019-24159.

On November 20, 2019, Sioux Falls Police responded to an armed robbery near the intersection of West 41st Street and South Carolyn Avenue.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect entered the business and pointed a black handgun at the employee working and demanded money.  After obtaining an undetermined amount of money the suspect fled from the business.  The suspect was described as a Native American female, wearing a black shirt, black pants, and a black mask covering her face.  SFPD CC#2019-23778.



Package Thefts
November 14, 2019

Over the course of the last week, the Sioux Falls Police Department has responded to multiple reports of package thefts.  The packages were delivered to the victim’s homes and then left on the front porch. The Sioux Falls Police Department is asking people to follow these tips to protect you from being a victim.  1.  Ask a neighbor to pick up your packages for you if you know you’re not going to be home.  2.  Have items delivered to your work.  3. If a retailer allows it, select a specific time for delivery when you will be home.

November 07, 2019

On November 4, 2019, Sioux Falls Police responded to a residential burglary near the intersection of West 8th Street and North Prairie Avenue.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect made entry into the detached garage.  Once inside the garage, the suspect stole numerous power tools and a 2012 BMW motorcycle.  The value of the stolen items is approximately $20,000.

On October 27, 2019, Sioux Falls Police responded to a residential burglary near the intersection of West 26th Street and South Kiwanis Avenue.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect forced entry into the home through a patio door to gain access.  Once inside the home, the suspect stole numerous pieces of jewelry and collectible coins.  The value of the stolen items and damage done to the home is approximately $6,000.
