May 28, 2020

On May 27, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business near East 12th Street and South Sycamore Avenue for a burglary.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect entered the business by breaking a glass door.  The suspect stole numerous items and then fled from the business. The cost of the damage and the stolen items is approximately $4,000.  SFPD CC# 2020-10081.

Over the course of the last week, members of the Sioux Falls Police Department have responded to 5 separate reports of guns being stolen from vehicles.  In an effort to combat this problem the Sioux Falls Police Department encourages the public to employ some basic preventative measures which include: locking your vehicles, removing valuables from view, and not leaving guns in your vehicle.

May 14, 2020

On May 10, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business near West 6th Street and North Phillips Avenue for a burglary.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect entered the business and broke into multiple private offices.  The suspect stolen numerous items and then left in a dark colored SUV.  A picture of the vehicle is attached.

Armed Robbery 20-08558
May 07, 2020

On May 6, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business near East 14th Street and South Cliff Avenue for an armed robbery.   The investigation found that an unknown suspect entered the business and pointed a handgun at the employee working. The suspect was able to obtain an undetermined amount of money and fled from the business.  The suspect is described as a male, 5’8” and 250 lbs.  The suspect was last seen wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and a blue and white mask.  A picture of the suspect is attached.

Larceny 20-08069
April 29, 2020

On April 29, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business near East 10th Street and South Franklin Avenue for a larceny.   The investigation found that an unknown suspect selected several parked work vehicles in the parking lot of the closed business.  The suspect then cut off the catalytic converters of the work vehicles.  The damage done to the work vehicles and the loss of catalytic converters is approximately $5,000.

On April 22, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to a residence near West 28th Street and South Norton Avenue for a burglary.   The investigation found that an unknown suspect had made entry into the residence through a side door.  Once inside the residence the suspect stole several electronics.

Copper Theft 20-07129
April 16, 2020

On April 15, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business near East 60th Street North and North Minnesota Avenue for a larceny.   The investigation found that an unknown suspect had stripped copper from multiple AC units near a commercial business.  The cost of the stolen copper and the damage done to the AC units is approximately $35,000.

April 09, 2020

Over the course of the last several weeks the Sioux Falls Police Department responded to 15 separate reports of car windows being broken out.  From the investigation, it appears unknown suspect(s) selected random parked vehicles to vandalize by shooting the windows with a BB gun.  The damage done to the vehicles is approximately $4,000.  SFPD CC# 2020-06732.



Aggravated Assault 20-06115
April 02, 2020

On March 30, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to the area of West 32nd Street and South Sertoma Avenue for an aggravated assault.   The investigation found that the victim was running on Sertoma Avenue when an unknown suspect grabbed the victim from behind.  The suspect punched the victim multiple times in the head while attempting to pull the victim into a tree line.  The victim was able to get away from the suspect and he fled from the scene.  The suspect is described as an early 20’s dark skinned African American male, approximately 6’2”-6’3” with a thin build.

On March 26, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business near West 41st Street and South Marion Road for an armed robbery.   The investigation found that an unknown suspect had entered the business and approached the employee working.  The suspect pointed a black handgun at the employee and demanded money.  The suspect was able to get an undetermined amount of money and fled from the business.  The suspect was described as an approximately 6’0” male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black ski mask and sunglasses, black gloves, and black shoes.

Potential Covid-19 Scams

There have been reports in other parts of the country about people going door-to-door with COVID-19 home testing kits. Once inside, they steal and rob from the victims. There are NO reports like this happening in Sioux Falls.  Some people may try to take advantage of others, please don't give out sensitive information or fall victim to these types of scams. Remember, in Sioux Falls, anyone selling or peddling must have and show a Peddler's Permit. If they do not have a permit, do not buy anything or let anyone into your home and call police.

On March 1, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to a house under construction near West Benson Road and North Marion Road for a burglary.  The investigation found that unknown suspects had forced entry into the house to gain access.  Once inside the suspects stole numerous construction tools.  The amount of loss from the damage and theft was approximately $15,000.

On February 19, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to a storage unit facility near West 12th Street and South Marion Road for a burglary.   The investigation found that unknown suspects had broken into a storage unit at the facility. The total amount of loss from the damage and theft was approximately $3,000.

On February 16, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to an armed robbery near the intersection of West 41 Street and South Louise Avenue. The investigation found that two unknown suspects entered the business, approached the employee, and displayed a gun.  The suspects were able to obtain an undetermined amount of money and fled from the business. The suspects were described as 1- African American male, 5’2”-5’5” with dreadlocks.  He was last seen wearing a black ski mask and a black hooded sweatshirt.  This suspect displayed a silver revolver.  2- African American male, 6’2”-6’4”.  He was last seen wearing a black ski mask and black hooded sweatshirt.

February 13, 2020

On February 13, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to an armed robbery near the intersection of West 57th Street and South Marion Avenue. The investigation found that an unknown suspect had entered the business, approached the employee, and displayed a gun.  The suspect was able to obtain an undetermined amount of money and fled from the business to the north. The suspect was described as an African American male, 5’9” with an athletic build and carrying a black and silver handgun.  He was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, black sweat pants, black tennis shoes, and a green/white bandana covering his face.  SFPD CC#2020-03002.

On February 5, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to a larceny near the intersection of East 41st Street and South Linedrive Avenue. The investigation found that unknown suspects had broken into a building under construction.  Numerous construction tools were stolen and the total loss is in excess of $2,000.  SFPD CC#2020-02473.

Over the course of the last several weeks the Sioux Falls Police Department responded to multiple reports of tailgates being stolen from vehicles.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect selected random parked vehicles in the parking lots of closed commercial businesses.  The suspect then steals the tailgate.

Stolen Vehicles

Since January 1, 2020, Sioux Falls Police have responded to 58 stolen vehicles.  A large number of these stolen vehicles had the keys in the vehicle and were running.  Some tips to prevent stolen vehicles are: 1-Never leave your car running or the keys in the ignition when you’re away from it.  2-Always roll up the windows and lock your car, even if it’s in front of your home.  3-Park in busy, well lighted areas.  Don’t be a victim of this serious crime.

January 16, 2020

On January 13, 2020, Sioux Falls Police responded to a storage unit facility near East 60th Street and North Cliff Avenue for a burglary.  The investigation found that unknown suspects had broken into a storage unit at the facility.  Numerous construction tools were stolen and the total loss is in excess of $15,000.  SFPD CC#2020-00843.
