Over the course of the last several weeks, the Sioux Falls Police Department has taken numerous reports where people have fallen victim to online/phone scams. These scams target people of all backgrounds, ages and income levels. If you've only ever spoken to them online or are unsure of the legitimacy of a business, take some time to do a bit more research. Remember, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
On January 25, 2022, Sioux Falls Police responded to a residential construction job site near East Madison Street and North Cactus Drive for a burglary. The investigation found that an unknown suspect had forced his way into the house that was currently under construction. Once inside the suspect stole numerous construction tools. The value of the damage and the stolen tools is approximately $2,500.
On January 3, 2022, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business in the area of West 41st Street and South Louise Avenue for a larceny. The investigation found that two suspects entered the business on January 2, 2022 and approached two cashiers that were working. One suspect was able to distract the cashiers while the other suspect accessed the registers and took an undetermined amount of cash before leaving the business. The suspects were described as 26-35 year old African-American males that were wearing blue jackets. CC#22-000172.
